General

  •  Approximately 20 members met at 6:30 at the 6th floor of the Helix Building, 310 S. Racine at Jackson.
  • Tonight's meeting was run by Jim Jarecki.

Officer Reports

  • Treasury – Bob Gadbois -
    • Switching banks. Contact Bob for full details.
    • Dues are due, $45 individual, $60 family.
    • LOUP / UASC Christmas party $30 - Pay Bob tonight if possible. Bring credit cards to the party for cash bar. Parking may or may not cost $12.
  • ICSSD Claire Gadbois
    • General Metings 3rd Thursday of the month, Mr. Beef and Pizza in Mt. Prospect.
    • OWU Feb 15-17. Volunteers needed for UASC, ICSSD, and OWU in general. Contact Chuck Miller for ICSSD and OWU positions.
    • Club Appreciation Night Feb 21st to honor all club officers, Cris Kohl speaker. Mr. Beef and Pizza Mt. Prospect Elmhurst Road and Oakton, 8:00. Free for all officers. Theme: Mardi Gras
    • UW competition March 30, Elk Grove Village. Raffle.

New Business

  •  Cris Kohl's new book, "Great Lakes Diving Guide, Second Edition", is now out.
    • 608 pages, with the Chicago section increased from 16 to 31 pages.
    • New Chapter on SCUBA Dive clubs.
    • $20 for an autographed copy - Contact Cris for details.
    • Eastland Disaster, Airplanes, Whalebacks, and other sidebars - 30 all together.
  • The Dennis Sullivan out of Milwaukee, is shipping out and looking for deck hands.
    • In February will be sailing for 5 days out of Key West with John Chatterton, to study Maritime History of the region. Contact Jim Jarecki for more information.

Guest Speaker

  • Maritime Historian Tom Lutz gave a very interesting talk on a wide variety of topics related to local maritime history. Tom is a recipient of TWO Barkhausen Awards for original maritime research.

Other Business

  •  A number of UASC members adjourned to Riccobene's for further discussion.
